A Proof of Life document (also commonly known as a Letter or Existence or a Certificate of Life) is a formal document that an individual is required to have completed with an authorized witness (consular officer, barrister / lawyer, notary public) that confirms that the subject individual was alive at the time the certificate was signed and witnessed.
The primary purpose of a Proof of Life document is to prevent fraud (where the recipient individual is actually dead), particularly in situations involving financial benefits:

Pensions and Annuities from foreign countries: Governments, pension funds, and insurance companies often require beneficiaries (especially those living abroad) to periodically submit a Proof of Life document. This ensures that payments continue only to individuals who are still alive, preventing overpayment of benefits to deceased individuals.

Other Benefits: It may be required for other financial benefits or entitlements where proof of continued existence (life) is necessary.
To address the need for Calgary resident to properly complete for submission of a Proof of Life / Letter of Existence / Certificate of Life, we have taken to providing pre-scheduled at-home legal / notarial services in the evenings in North Calgary (together with Bearspaw and SW Calgary north of 17th Ave SW), where we come to your home to complete the document signing, witnessing and notarization at a pre-scheduled time that works for both yourself and myself.
If you require a lawyer to sign off on a Proof of Life / Letter of Existence / Certificate of Life, your anticipated cost would be as follows:

(1) Completing the same proof of life for your spouse is undertaken at no additional charge, provide the total number of originals completed does not exceed four original documents. Additional charges if more than four original documents are being prepared and signed. Please confer with our office as to the cost of completing such added originals of your documents.
(2) If independent legal advice or special actions or circumstances are involved, we will look to provide you with the intended cost of our legal services in advance, such that you make an appropriate determination prior to our travelling out to meet with you and complete the agreed upon paperwork. The above charges are very clearly limited to the confirming recipient's status and signing off on the document.
